Planned & placed by a specialistWho is a good candidate for dental implants?
Health matters more than age. Here is how the AAP and the ADA describe a good implant patient — and if one doesn’t fit you yet, it can often be treated first.

One tooth, several teeth, or a full arch.
Every implant has three parts: the implant post placed in the bone, the abutment that connects it, and the restoration — a crown, bridge or denture.
Single-tooth implant
One implant and a custom crown. Unlike a traditional bridge, the teeth on either side don’t have to be reshaped.
Multiple teeth
Two or more implants can support an implant bridge, so several missing teeth are replaced while your neighboring natural teeth stay intact.
Full arch & implant dentures
For patients missing most or all of their teeth: TeethXpress® full-arch teeth, or a removable denture that snaps onto implants or clips onto a bar for a secure fit.

How dental implant treatment works.
We review your health history and use x-rays or our in-office 3D scanner to measure your bone. You get a plan, timeline and estimate before anything starts.
Failing teeth are removed and missing bone is rebuilt. After a ridge graft, the AAP notes bone is usually allowed to develop for four to 12 months; sometimes the implant goes in the same day.
The area is fully numbed, with sedation if you want it. When the scan shows enough bone, the implant can often be placed through a small opening instead of a larger incision.
Bone grows around the implant and locks it in place — usually three to nine months. A temporary tooth may be worn in the meantime, especially in the front.
Dr. Rojas often works with your general dentist to choose the parts for your final crown, bridge or denture, then sees you for periodic implant check-ups.

An implant is only as good as the bone and gums around it, so that’s where I start. I measure your bone on a 3D scan, check your gums, and show you what I see before we talk about anything else. If the foundation needs work, we fix it first.
If you’re nervous, tell me. If you feel anything during treatment, I stop and give you more anesthetic, and we continue only when you’re comfortable. You’ll know the plan and the cost before anything starts.
Dr. Tamara Rojas, D.M.D. · Board-Certified Periodontist · Read her background
Bone, gums and implant — handled by one specialist.
Implants are anchored in the jawbone and surrounded by gum tissue, which is why the American Academy of Periodontology points to periodontists — dentists with three additional years of training in both soft and hard tissue — for implant care. Dr. Rojas has been board-certified since 2006 and keeps up continuing education in implantology beyond what the dental board requires. (AAP: Dental Implant Procedures)
Bone can shrink after gum disease, years of denture wear or an injury. In those cases a ridge graft or sinus augmentation can rebuild it so an implant has something solid to hold. (AAP: Ridge Modification) Active gum disease is treated first with periodontal therapy, because healthy gums are a requirement for a lasting implant.
We use Straumann® implants from a Swiss manufacturer that backs its components with a warranty — ask us for the terms. See our treatment facilities.
Recovery. Mild discomfort and swelling are normal; Cleveland Clinic notes most people feel like themselves within about a week. Long term, you brush and floss an implant like a natural tooth and keep regular check-ups. (Cleveland Clinic: Dental Implants)

Dental implant questions
How long does the dental implant process take?+
It depends on your bone. The jawbone usually needs three to nine months to fuse around an implant before the final tooth is attached, and a bone graft can add four to 12 months of healing. Some patients can receive an implant and temporary teeth in the same visit. You get a timeline at your consultation.
Does dental implant surgery hurt?+
The area is fully numbed, and nitrous oxide, oral sedation and IV sedation are available. If you feel discomfort at any point, we pause and give more local anesthetic before continuing. Some soreness and swelling afterward is normal and usually improves within about a week.
Can I get implants if I have bone loss?+
Often, yes. When the 3D scan shows too little bone, a bone graft, ridge modification or sinus augmentation can rebuild it so an implant can be placed. Sometimes the graft and implant are done in the same procedure.
How much do dental implants cost?+
Cost depends on how many teeth are replaced, whether you need extractions or bone grafting, the type of crown, bridge or denture, and sedation. Each implant has three parts — the implant, the abutment and the restoration — and we give you an itemized estimate after your evaluation.
Does insurance cover dental implants?+
Coverage varies by plan. We accept most traditional insurance plans, verify your benefits and file claims for you. CareCredit for those who qualify, third-party financing and our in-house dental plan can help with the rest.
How do I take care of a dental implant?+
Brush and floss around it like a natural tooth and keep your regular dental visits. Plaque can cause gum infection around an implant (peri-implant disease), so periodic check-ups matter.
