A periodontist is a dentist who completes about three more years of specialty training after dental school, focused on gum disease, the bone around the teeth and dental implants. According to the American Academy of Periodontology, general dentists often refer patients when gum disease is moderate or severe, or when an implant case is complex. (AAP: What Is a Periodontist?)
Dr. Rojas has been a Board-Certified Periodontist since 2006 and keeps her Diplomate status active. She completed her periodontology certificate at Nova Southeastern University and holds an IV and nitrous sedation certificate from Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Meet Dr. Rojas.

Referrals and first visits
Do I need a referral to see a periodontist?+
Many patients are referred by their general dentist, and many call us directly. Some insurance plans require a referral to see a specialist, so we’ll check your plan when you call (954) 963-4700.
Will I still see my regular dentist?+
Yes. We work as a team with your general dentist and other specialists. Dr. Rojas treats your gums, bone and implants, and your dentist continues your routine care, fillings and crowns.
What should I bring to my first visit?+
A photo ID, your insurance card, a list of your medications, and any recent x-rays or referral from your dentist. Bringing x-rays can save you repeat images.
What is the difference between periodontal therapy and periodontal treatment?+
Periodontal therapy is the non-surgical starting point for gum disease, such as deep cleaning and maintenance. Periodontal treatment covers surgical and regenerative procedures like flap surgery and gum or bone grafts, used when more is needed.
Can I be sedated for my procedure?+
Yes. We offer IV sedation, nitrous oxide and oral sedation. Dr. Rojas holds a certificate in IV and nitrous sedation from Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
Do you accept my insurance?+
We accept most traditional insurance plans. If we are not in your network, we will still file your claims for reimbursement. We also accept cash, checks and credit cards, and offer CareCredit to those who qualify.
