Your first visit lays the foundation for everything after it. We take your medical and dental history, examine your gums, and give you time to get to know Dr. Tamara Rojas — so any treatment plan is built on facts and on what matters to you.

New patients can have a full evaluation of their gums and teeth, or a limited evaluation focused on one problem area.
The American Academy of Periodontology recommends a comprehensive periodontal evaluation every year. It looks at your teeth, plaque, gums, bite, bone structure and risk factors — the same information Dr. Rojas uses to decide whether you need nothing more than good home care, a deep cleaning, or periodontal therapy. We’ll go over your health history at the visit. Call ahead and our front desk can tell you how to complete your patient forms before you arrive and save time.
Include blood thinners and medications for diabetes or heart conditions — they matter when planning gum treatment and implants.
Ask your general dentist to send them over before your visit.

Many people come to a periodontist after years of putting off care because of fear. Dr. Rojas holds a Conscious Patient Management with I.V. and Nitrous Sedation certificate from Albert Einstein College of Medicine, and our office offers IV sedation, nitrous oxide and oral sedation.

New patient questions
What happens at my first visit?+
We review your medical and dental history, Dr. Rojas examines your gums and teeth (a comprehensive evaluation, or a limited evaluation of one problem area), and she explains what she finds and what your options are.
What should I bring to my first appointment?+
A photo ID, your insurance card, a list of your medications, and any recent x-rays or referral from your general dentist. Call ahead to ask about completing your patient forms before you arrive.
Do you accept my insurance?+
We accept most traditional insurance plans. Call us to verify yours. If we don’t participate with your plan, we can still file your claims for reimbursement as long as your plan lets you choose your own periodontist.
How can I pay for treatment?+
We accept cash, checks and credit cards, offer CareCredit to those who qualify, arrange third-party financing, and offer an in-house dental plan.
Can I be sedated if I’m nervous?+
Yes. We offer IV sedation, nitrous oxide and oral sedation, and Dr. Rojas holds an IV and nitrous sedation certificate. Let us know when you book so we can plan your visit.
What if I need to cancel or I’m running late?+
Please call us as soon as possible at (954) 963-4700 so we can adjust your appointment.
